Wien
Combined waste burning / power plant "Spittelau"
Built in 1971 as a plain functional industrial plant. After a major fire in 1987 the city commissioned renowned artist Friedensreich Hundertwasser to design the facade. At that time the desire to include aesthetics and appearance considerations for such a building were a first in the world.
Zentralfriedhof, Vienna
The cemetery spans 2.4 square kilometers with 3.3 million bodies buried here. Zentralfriedhof has a dead population of almost twice the present living residents of Vienna. 20-25 burials are scheduled daily. Area-wise it is the second largest cemetery, after Hamburg's Ohlsdorf Cemetery (more than 4 km²). There is a regular "Wiener Linien" bus service en route inside the cemetery. Tongue in cheek the locals refer to the Zentralfriedhof as 'half the size of Zurich and twice as much fun'. (see this Wikipedia article for further details)
Albertinaplatz, Vienna
A couple of tourist attrctions can be seen from this vantage point. In the center the State Opera with the green roof. World-famous Hotel Sacher next to it on the left. The monument of imperial army leader Archduke Albrecht on his horse. Next to it on the right the Albertina museum. On the far left behind the Fiaker horse carriages there is the Holocaust monument created by Oskar Kokoschka.
Heldenplatz, Vienna
Hofburg (far left), National Library and the Monument of Archduke Karl. A masterpiece of bronze casting. The horse only touches the ground with it's hind legs. This requires a very well balanced layout for a solid fixture.
Volksgarten, Vienna
A historic garden right at the Ringstrasse. The Flag waves at the Parliament, a glimpse of the Rathaus tower and right behind the fountain the Burgtheater can be seen.

Gasometer City, Vienna
Do you want to live in a gas tank? Well, in Vienna you actually can! The Gasometers in Vienna are four former gas tanks, each 70m tall and 60m in diameter. Built as part of the Vienna municipal gas works Gaswerk Simmering in 1896–1899 they were used until 1984 as gas storage tanks. After the changeover from town gas to natural gas was completed 1978, they were shut down. Only the brick exterior front walls were preserved. Appartments, offices, entertainment and shopping areas have been created inside the structures to preserve the buildings and put them to an alternative use today.
